I’m immensely proud to be able to announce that EQ is supporting Advent of Change a revolutionary charity advent calendar, inviting people to give, rather than receive as they count down to Christmas.
We are a key partner and will be supporting Advent of Change by promoting the calendar to our stakeholders.
This social enterprise, which was born just over eighteen months ago, has also caught the attention of the John Lewis Partnership, who will be stocking the calendar in John Lewis & Waitrose stores throughout the country and online.
So, what’s the idea? Each door reveals a different donation to a charity, spread across a wide variety of causes, including social mobility, healthcare and the environment. A huge majority of the sale price will go directly to charity.
Each day represents a donation and describes how that gift could be used to give you a clear understanding of where your money is going and to see how your money can help change the world for the better, from feeding the homeless to protecting our oceans.
Advent of Change is the brainchild of Kristina Salceanu. We wish her the very best of luck and will continue to support her on her journey.

Transforming the way you give
Finding good charities is actually more difficult than you think. Most people give money to charities reactively: someone asks you for a donation, sometimes you say yes. Usually you have very little idea as to whether this charity is really doing a good job.
We’re on a mission to change that. We’ve built a search facility that looks at more than 190,000 charities registered in the UK. In addition to fairly standard filters, such as areas of activity, size and type of beneficiaries we’ve added three factors that we believe are new and can be early indicators of success:
- Rate of growth
- Award winners
- Backing from major grant makers.
The latter indicates that the charity has satisfied the due diligence requirements of some of the UK’s professional givers.
