Low Cost Portfolios
EQ recognises that keeping charges low and performance predictable are important factors for some clients. These portfolios are based mainly on index tracking funds.
These portfolios have been designed for people who prefer the lower cost of passive funds and the greater certainty of tracking index performance. There is a great deal of evidence to suggest that the majority of actively managed funds fail to beat their benchmarks over the longer term. Active management is only successful when selecting the small minority of managers who have the skill to add enough value to more than compensate for the higher charges. EQ believes that less than 10% of active managers can pass this test.
How do these portfolios work?
These portfolios are invested across typically 10-15 index tracking funds to provide a broad spread of different assets. The asset allocation mirrors our core portfolios but some asset classes such as the absolute return strategies are not available in formats we deem cheap enough. As a result, the allocation to Absolute Return within our Best Ideas portfolios will be split among other asset classes.
The asset allocation is regularly reviewed and adjusted to reflect our views on the potential returns from each market.
