Downing Ventures EIS
A discretionary managed EIS portfolio service with a sole focus on investing in high growth technology businesses that are likely to disrupt large markets through “game changing” technology.
The Downing Ventures EIS (previously named Downing Growth EIS Fund 4) is a discretionary managed EIS portfolio service, where each investor will own a portfolio of between five and ten underlying companies, likely to be at the at the upper end of this range. The EIS is managed by Matt Penneycard, Head of the Downing Ventures team of five who sit within the wider Downing investment team.
The Downing Ventures EIS is solely focused on investing in high growth technology businesses. The strategy attempts to identify opportunities where there is the potential to generate significant growth, in opportunities that are likely to disrupt large markets through “game changing” technology.
The universe will include early stage companies, defined as being at the seed (start-up) stage, as well as those at subsequent growth stages.
The EIS has a target return of 3x net of fees and excluding tax relief. The documentation for Downing Ventures EIS states it anticipates investors will be given the opportunity to exit their investments between four and eight years from subscription.
Downing LLP was established in 1996, and currently has approximately £650 million of assets under managerment, specialising in tax efficient investments including VCT, EIS, IHT and ISA. Downing LLP is owned by its partners, having converted to a limited liability partnership in 2011.
Downing has expanded vastly over recent years, having raised over £1.6 billion from over 35,000 UK investors, across 11 VCTs, an increasing number of EIS, as well as IHT and BPRA products.
