As a Big Give Champion, The EQ Foundation is providing match funding to six charities achieving positive outcomes and delivering long lasting benefits to people in the UK and overseas.
This year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge starts at midday on 28th November and runs for seven days.
The Big Give Christmas Challenge: What is it?
The Christmas Challenge is an annual match funding campaign which has raised millions of pounds for thousands of good causes since it was launched in 2008 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Alec Reed. It also provides a platform for charities to run their own fundraising campaigns.
Running for seven days during the festive period, it offers supporters of participating charities the chance to have their donation doubled. The match funds come from two sources – charities secure some as pledges in the preceding months and these funds are then boosted by contributions from a Big Give Champion. This collective pot is used to double donations from online supporters when the campaign is live for a week.
Impact of The Big Give
– 94% of participating charities attracted new donors.
– 63% of charities said that current supporters gave more.
– 73% of charities reporting an increase in profile having taken part in the campaign.
– 50% of charities said they received a pledge promise from a new supporter.
Here are the six charities The EQ Foundation is championing in 2023:
1) Breaking Barriers: Refugees face an unemployment rate over 4x higher than the UK average. Breaking Barriers dedicated team of Employment Advisers provide tailored, 1:1 employment advice & guidance.
2) Global Canopy: Target the market forces destroying nature, focusing on ending deforestation, a vital step to achieving global goals on climate, nature and human rights. Their data and tools enable change, hold financial institutions and companies to account, and highlight the path to nature-positive action.
3) Global Witness Trust: Their investigations uncover the hidden ways that big business puts profit before people and accelerates climate disaster. They’re here to change the system and fight for a more sustainable world.
4) Resurgo Trust: Thousands of young people are trapped in cycles of unemployment due to poor mental health, with over half reporting anxiety as the biggest barrier to accessing work. Resurgo equip them with the practical tools they need to get a job, and address the deep-rooted issues and attitudes that prevent them from leading more fulfilling lives.
5) Students organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK): A youth-led charity created in response to the climate and nature crises. They are the support crew behind hundreds of young people leading climate action across the UK.
6) The Wave Project: Children and young people in the UK are suffering from a mental health crisis. The Wave Project provide surf therapy for children and young people (aged 8-21) suffering from depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and self harm.
